Well, first, if you’re new here, what is a mental health PT? It’s me. I made it up. It’s kind of like a buddy system to help people create and maintain the healthy habits that support their mental health. I support my clients in focusing on these 7 areas:
Sleep
Exercise
Mindfulness
Mental health
Nutrition
Healthy Relationships
Environment
We come up with plans and routines. I keep them accountable with our once-a-week catch-ups. Then I get to sit back and watch them change the way they feel about themselves by showing up for themselves. It’s like being a part-time big sister.
So, what do I like about being a mental health PT?
Honestly, so far - everything. Watching people discover how much control they have over their mind and their life is so special.
The coolest thing is how different everyone is. Like, it’s not one healthy habit that fits all. Figuring out which healthy habit is the key to unlocking a new level of enjoyment is SO COOL.
For some, it’s journaling. The moment that pen hits the paper, they are off. They’re suddenly able to solve all these problems that have been running around in their head because they can write them down.
For others, it’s honestly sleep. The moment their body is being fueled with the right amount paired with some better sleep hygiene (no screens before bed, a sleepy tea, and some low light), it’s like a whole new area of their brain starts working. The extra energy they gain is used for creative ideas or to fuel more healthy habits.
Everyone is so different, and I think that’s what I love about it so much. No two clients are the same. Every person I see feels like this puzzle I get to help work out.
The best part is I get to just cheer them on in whatever they’re into. I don’t have to make them fit into what I think will work because the point is for them to find what works.
It’s amazing how empowering an individualized product can be.
I LOVE BEING A MENTAL HEALTH PT.
